Digitization System
Our Digital Transitions system exceeds FADGI 4-Star standards. We use the DT Atom, a table-top digitization platform that can adapt to nearly any material type. We also use a Phase One IQ4 150 megapixel digital back mounted on a DT Rcam camera with Schneider high-resolution lenses and illuminated with cultural-heritage LED DT Photon lights, resulting in true preservation quality with accurate color, tone and detail.
We capture all images and process using Capture One CH software which is ideal for art reproduction and features tools such as Autocrop and AutoDeskew, Multi Crop, Batch Processing, and Raw-Stage Quality Control.
Founder Aperture Archival was founded by photographic artist and exquisite printer Peter Steinhauer, whose career spans more than three decades. His photographs have been exhibited internationally, published in acclaimed monographs, and acquired by museums, corporate collections, and private collectors worldwide. That experience informs every aspect of Aperture Archival’s work, combining an artist’s sensitivity to the original with the technical precision required to reproduce it faithfully.
Specializing in high resolution digitization and fine art printing, Aperture Archival serves museums, archives, corporations, artists, and private collectors. Clients have included Tiffany & Co., the Steve Jobs Archive, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, with projects encompassing photographic negatives, transparencies, glass plate negatives, rare books, prints, original artworks, maps and historical documents, as well as oversized materials. Each collection receives an approach tailored to its condition, character, and intended use, with careful attention to handling, color accuracy, tonal detail, and texture.
